The Downward Slide

It's been a difficult few months, and I really haven't written about it yet. It's been basic drudgery and work around here lately and I have not tracked down wifi to update my blog. Sorry, nothing cool and upbeat to report on.

The water damage to the rv was too severe for us to afford to fix it. We are now trying to sell it so we can finish paying it off.

Our savings is completely wiped out now due to another dilemma...... When Tropical Storm Debbie blew through a few months ago my husband drove to work in very bad conditions. He was one minute late and they fired him.

He has been unemployed for up to two weeks before, but never  three months! It has been difficult. He made the decision to go to a truck driving school because the only jobs we have seen advertised lately are medical and truck driving. He went to a school a few hours away. He was using the car we helped our son purchase in better times. The engine blew on his way home for the weekend. He missed some school because of it and ended up selling it to a junkyard for $300.00. The following week he had to take my car and leave me without transportation.

We've weathered all the setbacks. The bills are paid, the pantry is stocked, and employment is in the near future. These times shall pass eventually. Hope everyone is doing well out there.

  1. Heres to a brighter tomorrow, our summer also sent us on a downward slide but when you are down there is only one way to go and that is UP!

I know the resilience it takes to weather the storms you describe and you have it by the buckets full!

Lets raise our glasses up to better times and the abundance of this beautiful universe!

  2. Oh, my! When I heard of the leak, I figured it was too much of an expense. At least,it seems that you now have an upward course. At least, you have each other.

  3. Ugh, I'm so sorry it's been such a rough slog. I hope your husband gets a good job soon and that you can sell the RV for a good price.

  9. I am enraged that your husband would be fired for one minute of lateness, especially considering the driving conditions. I consider this amoral behavior on the part of his former employer and it will come back to them. If this is the kind of environment he was working in, then he is better off somewhere else.

Having said that, I can only imagine how tough the current situation has been on you. I have thought of you a lot and continue to pray for you. Please know that you don't have have anything "cool" to report in order to update your blog. Many of us are slogging through adverse conditions and your story inspires us to know that we don't have to knuckle under to difficult circumstances.

On a more practical note, do you have any friends or coworkers who can help you with transportation? In interviews with survivors of the Great Depression it is mentioned over and over again how neighbors would band together and help each other out. One advantage of these tough economic times is that we may find our way back to that kind of community spirit.

I hope this next suggestion doesn't seem too far fetched, but have you and your family ever considered taking advantage of the job boom in North Dakota? It could be a new economic start for your whole family. Employers are so desperate for workers that they may even be willing to help with moving costs. This wouldn't have to be permanent but it might be an opportunity to save up some money so you would have more economic choices in the future.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
